Ilia Darchiashvili held a meeting with Danish parliamentarians

The Minister of Foreign Affairs met with the Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee of the
Parliament of the Kingdom of Denmark, Michael Aastrup-Jensen, and the Chairman of the European
Affairs Committee, Niels Hansen.

The sides spoke about the existing close partnership relations between Georgia and the Kingdom of
Denmark.

Special attention was paid to Georgia’s European integration and the European Commission’s
recommendation on granting Georgia the status of a candidate country.

Ilia Darchiashvili highlighted the legislative and institutional reforms, which Georgia carried out in
accordance with the European Commission’s priorities. The minister particularly emphasized Denmark’s
position on Georgia's European integration, the importance of mobilizing support at the parliamentary
level, and the direct involvement and role of MPs in this process.

Ilia Darchiashvili once again expressed his expectation that at the end of the year the European Council
will make a decision on granting Georgia a candidate status, which will take Georgia-EU relations to a
new stage.

Discussions also focused on the cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries. The
sides evaluated positively the visit of the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili to
Denmark in 2022, as well as the visits of various committees of the Georgian Parliament in 2023.

Special note was taken of the conference dedicated to the security of the Black Sea region, which was
organized by the Danish Parliament.

At the meeting, the sides also discussed the security environment and challenges facing the region. In
this context, the situation in the occupied territories of Georgia was especially emphasized.

On a final note, the sides confirmed their willingness to continue close cooperation.
