The Minister of Foreign Affairs has met with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk 

Within the framework of his visit to Geneva, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili, held a meeting with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk. The minister emphasized the role and importance of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in a period full of challenges.

Ilia Darchiashvili spoke about the humanitarian situation in the occupied territories of Georgia and the facts of human rights violations.

The minister emphasized the importance of maintaining the humanitarian situation in the occupied territories high on the UN agenda. He also noted the necessity of establishing the international monitoring mechanisms in the occupied territories.

The sides highlighted the role of the UN in ensuring the peaceful settlement of the conflict and also in protecting the rights of the population affected by the conflict. Special attention was focused on the resolution of the Human Rights Council on "Cooperation with Georgia".

The minister also spoke about the Geneva International Discussions and the special role of the United Nations in this process.

At the end of the meeting, Ilia Darchiashvili invited the High Commissioner to Georgia.
