On 26 June 2023, a preparatory meeting for the 58th round of Geneva International Discussions was held with the co-chairs of the negotiations from the European Union, the United Nations and the OSCE.
From the Georgian side, the meeting was led by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and the head of the Georgian delegation to the Geneva Discussions, Lasha Darsalia.
The sides emphasized the need to make progress on key issues on the agenda of the Geneva International Discussions, such as Russia's fulfillment of its international obligations under the 12 August 2008 ceasefire agreement and the safe and dignified return of internally displaced persons and refugees. In this context, the essential importance of smooth and effective functioning of the Geneva format was highlighted.
Emphasis was also put on the need to restore the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) in Gali without any preconditions.
The Georgian side raised the issue of Russia's illegal actions in the occupied regions and near the occupation line, which further aggravates the security, humanitarian and human rights situation on the ground.
The 58th round of international negotiations in Geneva is scheduled to be held on 11 and 12 July 2023.
