Ilia Darchiashvili: "Georgia is the only country in the region that has the free trade agreement signed with the European Union and the People's Republic of China"

Speaking before the Parliament of Georgia , the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili highlighted the prospects of deepening economic relations between Georgia and the People's Republic of China.

The Minister paid special attention to the free trade agreement signed between the two countries in 2018.

"Georgia and China are part of the ancient Silk Road and share the centuries-long history of trade and economic cooperation. Since January 2018, the free trade agreement between Georgia and China has been in effect, which has significantly increased trade, especially Georgian exports to the Chinese market. As a result, China is among Georgia’s three largest trade partners. Currently, Georgia is the only country in the region to have signed the free trade agreement with China" - Darchiashvili said.

According to him "Georgia has proven to be a reliable partner for both the European Union and China; We are actively using the opportunity provided by these two agreements to increase the trade turnover volume of in both directions."

The minister also spoke about the important role of Georgia as a link between Europe and Asia and its function as a transit hub.
