After the agreement between the Government of Georgia and the Government of the People's Republic of China on the mutual exemption from visa requirements for ordinary passport holders came into effect on 30 May 2024, the inaugural direct flight from Tbilisi to Urumqi carried the first visa-free travelers.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, and the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Georgia, Zhou Qian, accompanied the passengers to China.
This agreement allows Georgian citizens to travel to the People's Republic of China without a visa and stay for up to 30 days per visit.
