The 69th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is taking place in Vienna from 15 to 19 September 2025.
Within the framework of the conference, on 16 September, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Lasha Darsalia, delivered a statement on behalf of Georgia. In his address, he reaffirmed the country’s strong support for the mission and activities of the Agency in promoting the safe, secure, and peaceful use of nuclear technology.
The Deputy Minister underscored the importance of nuclear safety in the Black Sea region, stressing that the stability of the region carries particular significance for the maintenance of international peace and security.
The statement further highlighted that the situation in the Russian-occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions poses a serious challenge to nuclear security, especially in the absence of international access and monitoring mechanisms.
In conclusion, the Deputy Minister once again reaffirmed Georgia’s commitment to the mandate of the Agency and its readiness to cooperate with all member states in the interest of advancing peace and security.
