On 5 April 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili held a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, Edmondo Cirelli, who arrived in Georgia within the framework of political consultations between the two countries.
At the meeting, the sides welcomed the friendly relations and close ties established between the two countries. During the conversation, it was noted that Georgia and Italy are reliable partners. The sides highlighted their readiness to move these relations to an even higher level. Ilia Darchiashvili and Edmondo Cirelli emphasized the importance to activate the dynamics of high-level visits. Special attention was also focused on the great potential of deepening the economic relations between Georgia and Italy.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs thanked the Italian diplomat for his country's support for Georgia's integration into the European and Euro-Atlantic structures. For his part, Edmondo Cirelli emphasized that Italy considers Georgia a part of Europe and will continue to support it on the path of EU integration.
At the meeting, the sides paid special attention to the difficult security and human rights situation in the Russian-occupied territories of Georgia. The Italian diplomat once again confirmed Italy's support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
At the end of the meeting, the sides once again confirmed their readiness to continue close cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral formats.
