“One of the top priorities for our government is to prepare Georgia for EU membership. If the European Union expands by 2030, Georgia will be the best-prepared among the candidate countries for EU membership” - the candidate for Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Botchorishvili said during her speech at the joint session of the parliamentary committees.
As Maka Botchorishvili noted, achieving the final outcome requires dialogue with partners to ensure that Georgia’s EU accession process is successfully carried out and completed.
“In accordance with Article 78 of the Constitution of Georgia, the country will continue its irreversible path of Euro-Atlantic integration. Therefore, relations with NATO and the European Union will remain a key priority.
Today, Georgia is a candidate country for EU membership. This is a significant achievement, based on the progress our country has made over the past ten years on the path of European integration, our tireless efforts to secure political support from our partners, and, of course, the unwavering will of the Georgian people. If the European Union expands by 2030, Georgia will be the best-prepared among the candidate countries for EU membership.
Today, the main legal framework for Georgia's relations with the European Union remains the Association Agreement, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA), which simultaneously serves as a guide for the necessary reforms.
Our goal is to ensure that over 90 percent of the Association Agreement with the European Union is implemented within the next four years, and in this process, the role of the Georgian Parliament is truly outstanding. I am confident that the 11th Convocation of Parliament will be just as successful and will play a significant role in the implementation of the Association Agreement, as was the case in previous years” – Maka Botchorishvili noted.
Of course, achieving the final outcome requires dialogue with our partners to ensure that Georgia's EU accession process is successfully carried out and completed.
According to her, this dialogue must not be conducted in the language of ultimatums. It is essential to seek constructive approaches on all critical issues between partners.
“I hope that after the approval of the new composition of the European Commission, we will have the opportunity to work intensively with the relevant departments of the European Commission to take further steps toward EU membership in the next four years, alongside other candidate countries” - Maka Botchorishvili is quoted as saying.
