On 14 June, within the framework of the visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili to the Kingdom of Belgium, Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Kingdom of Belgium was signed.
From the side of Georgia, the memorandum was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili, and from the side of the Kingdom of Belgium - by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Foreign Trade and the Federal Cultural Institutions, Hadja Lahbib
The document signed between the foreign ministries of Georgia and the Kingdom of Belgium will contribute to the further strengthening of high-level political, economic and cultural relations between the two countries and the holding of regular political consultations on European and Euro-Atlantic integration issues.
The purpose of the memorandum is to promote the development of economic diplomacy through the sharing of experience, expert knowledge and know-how. At the same time, the document gives the parties an opportunity to focus more on strengthening contacts in the field of trade, tourism and investment.
The memorandum also creates a framework for cooperation in the field of education, including diplomatic training, science and culture.
It needs to be emphasized that the Memorandum highlights the historic importance of the decision of the European Council of 23 June 2022 to recognize the European perspective to Georgia, considers the importance of fully exploiting the potential of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA), reaffirmს strong support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, and confirms the decision made at the 2008 Bucharest Summit that Georgia will become a member of NATO.
