Within the framework of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia held a meeting with the President of the 78th session of the General Assembly, Dennis Francis.
The sides reviewed the existing successful cooperation with Georgia within the framework of the organization.
The Georgian side once again expressed its support to the President of the General Assembly in the implementation of the organization's priorities, which is related to the protection of the values and principles of the UN Charter, as well as to ensuring peace, prosperity and sustainable development.
Discussions also focused on Georgia's successful involvement in the organization's initiatives, including joint events related to the UN's sustainable development goals.
The national sustainable development goals set by Georgia and the dynamics of their implementation were assessed as successful.
The sides reviewed the current situation in the occupied regions of Georgia. The Minister of Foreign Affairs thanked the President of the General Assembly for supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.
It was noted how important it is to keep the issue of Georgia high on the UN agenda and to actively support Georgia IDP Resolution, as well as the Secretary General’s respective report . The importance of the active involvement of the UN and its institutions in the reconciliation and confidence building process was also emphasized.
The sides also reviewed the security environment in the region. It was once again noted that Georgia is interested in peace and stability in the region and expresses its readiness to make efforts in this regard.
Ilia Darchiashvili wished success to the President of the General Assembly in his future activities and invited him to Georgia.
