The Minister of Foreign Affairs has had a telephone conversation with his Spanish counterpart

On 24 August 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, spoke over the phone with the Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia emphasized the importance of the support of Spain, as the country holding the EU Presidency during this crucial period of Georgia’s EU integration. Ilia Darchiashvili provided his Spanish colleague with comprehensive information about Georgia’s efforts to fulfil the European Commission’s recommendations.

Ilia Darchiashvili thanked the Spanish side for unwavering support of Georgia’s EU integration and  expressed the hope that the progress achieved by Georgia will be duly recognized by granting the country a candidate status.

For his part, José Manuel Albares emphasized that Georgia is part of Europe and once again confirmed Spain's firm support for Georgia's European future.

The ministers also talked about the growing bilateral relations between the two countries and the possibilities of further deepening of the political dialogue.
