On 20 April 2023, within the framework of a working visit to the Republic of Italy, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili met with heads and members of Georgian diaspora organizations.
Within the framework of the meeting, Ilia Darchiashvili reviewed the ongoing processes in Georgia and drew attention to the important results achieved internationally.
The minister introduced the diaspora state strategy and emphasized the priority of working on diaspora issues. He also spoke about the initiatives and innovations the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched to ensure effective communication with the diaspora.
Ilia Darchiashvili noted the Georgian diaspora’s important contribution to the promotion of Georgian culture in Italy, and also highlighted the importance of Sunday schools in preserving the national identity of Georgian children living abroad.
At the meeting, attention was also paid to the challenges facing the Georgian diaspora and ways to solve them. In addition, the need for regular meetings with the diaspora was noted.
At the meeting, representatives of the diaspora provided the Foreign Miniser with information about their activities and implemented projects.
The Minister thanked the diaspora representatives for their participation in the meeting and expressed readiness for further intensive communication with them.
