Speaking before the Parliament in the format of Minister’s Hour, the Vice Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs, David Zalkaliani summarized the results achieved in the field of economic diplomacy in 2021.
According to the first diplomat of Georgia, active economic diplomacy is important for the development of investment opportunities and foreign investment capital, as well as for the implementation of various large-scale projects and the expansion of export markets for Georgian products.
"To achieve this goal, 15 business delegations visited Georgia and a business forum was held, as well as 12 online business meetings/forums were conducted in 2021 with representatives of business communities from Bulgaria, Ireland, Greece, Slovenia, Ukraine, Japan and Malaysia. On the other hand, Georgian governmental structures and business organizations were encouraged to participate in international exhibitions, festivals, seminars, conferences and presentations in Bern, Vilnius, Kiev, Seoul, Doha, Madrid, London, Lyon, San Francisco.
The Minister focused on the start of construction of a new multifunctional maritime terminal by PACE Group in the port of Poti and the opening of a new multimodal terminal of the American company TRAMMO in the port of Batumi, with the direct involvement and support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
"New direct flights to different countries have been gradually restored and added, which, as you know, is also extremely important for attracting foreign tourists to Georgia. "An agreement has been reached with Central Asian countries, as well as India, China, Korea, Japan and other countries to attract greater freight traffic to our region, and therefore these countries are ready to use our region as the corridor to increase cargo carriages" - said the Minister.
According to the Foreign Minister, active work will continue to expand the area of direct air traffic and to ensure that Georgian start-ups enter the foreign markets, as well as to promote Georgia as an attractive tourist destination. New export markets will be explored and Georgia will be popularized as a transport and logistics center.
