As part of the regional tour of the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, on 22 August, the seventh round of bilateral political consultations was held between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the Republic of Colombia. The first deputy minister of Georgia, Lasha Darsalia, and the deputy minister of Colombia, Francisco Coy, led the consultations.
During the consultations, the sides discussed current issues on the cooperation agenda between Georgia and the Republic of Colombia. Special attention was paid to the necessity of deepening cooperation in the political, trade-economic, cultural, education, tourism areas. The importance of exchanging high-level visits between the two countries was noted. The need of holding regular bilateral political consultations between Georgia and Colombia was also emphasized.
During the consultations, the sides exchanged information on successful cooperation within international and regional organizations. Discussions focused on important issues on the regional and international agenda.
The Colombian side once again confirmed its unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.
During the meeting, the Colombian side was informed that, taking into account the existing friendly relations between Georgia and Colombia, Georgia made a decision to change the currently used name of the country spelled in Georgian as "Columbia" (Republic of Columbia) to "Colombia" (Republic of Colombia).
At the end of the meeting, the sides agreed to continue fruitful cooperation between the two countries.
