On 15 February 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili paid an official visit to the Republic of Türkiye. Within the framework of the visit, Ilia Darchiashvili held a bilateral meeting with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Numan Kurtulmuş.
The sides discussed current issues of bilateral strategic cooperation between the two countries. Also, they emphasized the importance of further deepening cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries.
The Georgian Foreign Minister thanked Numan Kurtulmuş for Türkiye's unwavering support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for Georgia's non-recognition policy. Additionally, Darchiashvili extended his appreciation for Türkiye’s active support for Georgia's NATO accession efforts
Discussions focused on the ongoing processes in the region and across the world. It was highlighted that there is no alternative to peace in the region.
The dynamics of bilateral trade and economic relations were assessed as successful. Attention was focused on the implementation of strategic transit and energy projects. The importance of deepening trilateral cooperation between Georgia, Turkey and Azerbaijan was noted, including meetings at the level of foreign committees of legislative bodies, ministers of foreign affairs, ministers of defence, etc.
Both sides affirmed that there will be ongoing active collaboration between Georgia and the Republic of Türkiye.
