During his visit to Saudi Arabia, Ilia Darchiashvili has met with his colleague, Prince Faisal bin Farhan

On 24 January 2024, within the framework of the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili to Saudi Arabia, an agreement was signed between Georgia and Saudi Arabia on the creation of an intergovernmental coordination council.

It should be noted that the creation of a joint intergovernmental commission between the two countries was decided in 2022, within the framework of the visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia to Saudi Arabia, at the meeting between Irakli Gharibashvili and the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Prime Minister, His Royal Highness, Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.

The signing of this agreement will significantly contribute to the deepening of political and economic cooperation and will bring the existing relations between the two countries to a qualitatively newer stage.

At the meeting of the ministers, the sides emphasized the close partnership and friendship between the two countries. Special attention was focused on the importance of deepening relations in trade and economy, tourism, people-to-people contacts and culture.

The minister informed his colleague about the economic potential and business opportunities of Georgia.

The sides also focused on the successful visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia to Saudi Arabia and the importance of timely and effective implementation of the agreements reached during the visit.

The foreign ministers also reviewed the current situation and challenges facing the region.
