On 7 July 2023, the eighth round of political consultations at the level of deputy ministers was held between the ministries of foreign affairs of Georgia and the People's Republic of China in Beijing. From the side of Georgia, the consultations were led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili, and from the side of China - the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ma Zhaoxu.
The sides discussed a wide range of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, including in political, economic, cultural-humanitarian areas and regarding the bilateral legal framework. Special emphasis was put on the need to deepen partnership in the areas of trade and economy, investment, transport, logistics, agriculture, tourism and information technologies.
Both sides emphasized the importance of conducting high-level visits.
The deputy ministers shared information and views on the current situation and challenges facing the region and the world.
Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili informed his Chinese colleague about the situation in the occupied territories of Georgia. He emphasized Georgia's commitment to the One-China principle. On the other hand, the Chinese side once again confirmed its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within the internationally recognized borders.
