On 13 March 2024, within the framework of his visit to the Republic of Finland, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili, held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland, Elina Valtonen.
At the meeting, the Ministers reviewed the current agenda of relations between Georgia and Finland and issues of cooperation in international formats. The increasing level of cooperation between the two countries was noted with satisfaction. In order to strengthen business ties between the countries, special attention was focused on the importance of the "Georgian-Finnish Business Forum".
The sides welcomed the political dialogue between Georgia and Finland.
A positive assessment was given to Georgia's cooperation with Scandinavian countries.
The sides discussed the process of Georgia's accession to the European Union. Ilia Darchiashvili emphasized the importance of granting Georgia a candidate status being the result of intensive efforts and steps taken by the Georgian government. The minister highlighted the importance of the support of member states, including the Republic of Finland, in terms of opening EU accession negotiations for Georgia.
The Georgian Foreign Minister informed his Finnish counterpart about the difficult security, humanitarian and human rights situation in the occupied regions of Georgia. Special attention was paid to the progress of the Geneva International Discussions and the importance of the international partners’ support in the peaceful resolution of the conflict.
Ilia Darchiashvili thanked his colleague for his firm support of Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for its European aspirations.
The sides confirmed their commitment to continue and further intensify the fruitful cooperation between the countries.
The Georgian Foreign Minister invited his Finnish counterpart to visit Georgia.
