Ilia Darchiashvili has met with his Latvian colleague

During his working visit to Riga, on 3 November 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs,
Ilia Darchiashvili met with his Latvian colleague, Krišjānis Kariņš. 

At the meeting, the sides expressed their satisfaction with the visit of the Minister of
Foreign Affairs of Georgia, which is being held for the first time after a few years' pause,
and also coincides with a remarkable date - the 30th anniversary of the establishment of
diplomatic relations between Georgia and Latvia.

The ministers reviewed current issues of cooperation between the countries and
emphasized the importance of strengthening political dialogue and sectoral cooperation
between Latvia and Georgia.

Special attention was paid to the agenda of Georgia's integration into the European
Union. The Georgian Foreign Minister informed his Latvian colleague about the
progress achieved in the implementation of the European Commission’s 12
recommendations and emphasized the importance of the member states’ support for
granting the candidate status to Georgia. Latvia once again expressed its support for
Georgia's European future.

Special note was taken of strong friendship and reliable partnership between Latvia and
Georgia, which was repeatedly expressed by Latvia in support of the country's territorial
integrity and sovereignty, as well as for its European integration. The sides reviewed the
security environment in the region and the existing challenges.

The sides highlighted the importance of high-level visits, activation of political
consultations and close coordination between the two countries.

At the end of the meeting, Ilia Darchiashvili invited Krišjānis Kariņš to Georgia.
