The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia has paid an official visit to the Republic of Türkiye

On 15 February 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, paid an official visit to the Republic of Türkiye.

Within the framework of the visit, Ilia Darchiashvili held a bilateral meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and Turkey discussed important issues on the agenda of strategic partnership between the two countries, including issues of cooperation in trade, economics, energy, transport, strategic regional projects, cultural and humanitarian spheres. The ministers successfully assessed the dynamics of bilateral trade and economic relations.

Special attention was focused on the implementation of strategic transit and energy projects. The sides reviewed the transit potential of Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey. In this context, they noted the importance of the development of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, as well as the middle corridor.

The importance of conducting high-level visits was noted. The importance of the high-level Georgia-Türkiye strategic cooperation council was also mentioned.

Special attention was paid to the ongoing processes and the security challenges facing the region. At the meeting, Türkiye's steadfast support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity was once again confirmed.

The sides highlighted the need for sustainable and stable development of the region, as well as the role of Georgia and Türkiye in terms of promoting peace in the region.

Talking points also included the successful format of tripartite Georgia-Türkiye-Azerbaijan cooperation, within the framework of which a tripartite ministerial meeting of the foreign ministers of Georgia-Turkey-Azerbaijan will be held in March.

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and Türkiye exchanged information on current international issues and discussed the prospects for deepening cooperation within the framework of international organizations.
