Maka Botchorishvili has met with the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Georgia, Gareth Ward

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Botchorishvili, met with the United Kingdom’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Georgia, Gareth Ward.

During the meeting, discussions focused on the current developments in Georgia. Minister Botchorishvili emphasized the importance of an objective and impartial assessment of ongoing events, particularly in light of the provocative and violent actions perpetrated by certain groups, both during protests and within the broader political processes.

The discussion also covered the detention of individuals for various violations during the protests. It was emphasized that law enforcement agencies are responding appropriately to such incidents, ensuring transparency throughout the process. The rights of detainees are fully protected, and those engaging in extreme forms of protest receive continuous medical supervision.

The meeting also addressed Georgia’s cooperation with international organizations regarding ongoing developments in the country. The Minister underscored that Georgia maintains active communication with all relevant stakeholders, ensuring the timely and comprehensive sharing of information. In this context, the Ambassador was briefed on the measures undertaken by Georgia in response to the questionnaire submitted by 38 OSCE member states. It was stated that the information provided will support OSCE institutions and participating states in conducting a thorough and objective assessment of the situation.

In discussing bilateral relations, it was reiterated that recent actions taken by the United Kingdom concerning Georgia, despite the traditionally friendly ties between the two countries, have unfortunately not contributed to a positive agenda. However, hope was expressed that Georgia-UK relations will soon return to their usual trajectory.
