On 24 January 2024, within the framework of the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili to Saudi Arabia, an agreement was signed between Georgia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding the creation of an intergovernmental coordination council.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili, from the Georgian side, and by the head of the Foreign Ministry, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, from the Saudi Arabian side.
According to the agreement, the meetings of the intergovernmental commission will become regular. In addition, the mentioned document envisages the creation of working groups on issues of common interest, which will periodically hold meetings and consultations.
The signing of this agreement will significantly contribute to the deepening of political and economic cooperation and will bring the existing relations between the two countries to a qualitatively newer stage.
It should be noted that the creation of a joint intergovernmental commission between the two countries was decided in 2022, within the framework of the visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia to Saudi Arabia, at the meeting between Irakli Gharibashvili and the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Prime Minister, His Royal Highness, Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.
