Maka Botchorishvili and Péter Szijjártó Discuss Strategic Partnership Between Georgia and Hungary

As part of her visit to Hungary, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Botchorishvili, met with her Hungarian counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó. The ministers discussed key issues related to bilateral relations, explored prospects for deepening cooperation, and emphasized the importance of fully leveraging the potential of trade, economic ties, connectivity, and other areas of mutual interest.

"I would like to once again express my gratitude for Hungary’s unwavering support for Georgia and for your principled positions. We particularly appreciate Hungary’s assistance both within the framework of the European Union and in our bilateral relations. Our countries enjoy a high level of partnership, and we take great pride in this. The coming year will also be significant and eventful, with the upcoming session of the Economic Commission playing a crucial role in strengthening economic ties and identifying new opportunities. We eagerly anticipate the next intergovernmental meeting in Budapest, which will provide an excellent platform to discuss further avenues of cooperation. This is a clear example of how countries should collaborate and work together to enhance their connections," stated the Georgian Foreign Minister, Maka Botchorishvili at a joint press conference following her meeting with Péter Szijjártó.

During discussions on trade and economic relations, particular attention was given to the strategic potential of the Black Sea. The ministers highlighted the ongoing quadrilateral cooperation between Georgia, Hungary, Azerbaijan, and Romania, emphasizing the significance of their joint project in enhancing the broader region’s energy security.

Minister Botchorishvili also expressed appreciation for Hungary’s support of Georgia’s European aspirations at both the political and expert levels. She reiterated that both sides remain committed to working together in this direction.

In conclusion, Minister Botchorishvili thanked Péter Szijjártó for his warm hospitality and noted that this was her second visit to Hungary since December, underscoring the strength of the bilateral relationship.

Notably, Maka Botchorishvili traveled to Hungary at the invitation of her counterpart. Together with the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, she participated in the Hungarian Ambassadors’ Conference, where she engaged in a panel discussion with Hungarian diplomats on Georgia’s foreign policy priorities and challenges. Additionally, she delivered a speech at the Hungarian Diplomatic Academy.
