On 21 November 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili met with the UK Minister of State for Europe, Leo Docherty.
The sides noted the importance of the UK Minister's visit, which once again confirms the strategic nature of bilateral relations and is another demonstration of the UK's growing interest in the region.
Within the framework of the meeting, the sides paid special attention to the ongoing processes in the region. Special note was taken of Georgia’s efforts to promote peace and stability. The UK Minister for Europe emphasized the successful role of Georgia as a regional mediator.
Leo Docherty highlighted Georgia’s contribution towards increasing regional connectivity, enhancing Europe’s energy independence and forming a new energy architecture.
The sides discussed the current issues of bilateral cooperation and emphasized the positive dynamics during the year. A special accent was put on the importance of the "Wardrop Strategic Dialogue", which has become a regular platform for bilateral cooperation. In this context, the Georgian side confirmed its readiness to host the 9th round of the Dialogue in Tbilisi.
Against the backdrop of the current security challenges, the Minister of Foreign Affairs paid special attention to the need for the partners’ consolidated support for Georgia.
