“Georgia has an important role to perform in the enlargement policy as it is seen through the prism of Germany” – Ilia Darchiashvili

"It is a very important day in Berlin. My participation in this conference as the main
speaker in the format of one of the round tables confirms that Georgia has an important
role to perform in the enlargement policy as it is seen through the prism of Germany.
Germany is becoming one of the main supporters for Georgia’s European future that
gives cause for more optimism over the country’s EU candidacy status” - The Minister of
Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili, stated this while evaluating the participation in the
conference on the EU enlargement in Berlin.

According to the minister, Germany has become one of the main countries that actively
talks about Georgia's European future and perspective.

The country is entering a very important phase regarding obtaining the EU candidate
status, Darchiashvili said, noting he was optimistic about the candidacy as “Georgia has
concrete tangible results” in this regard.

“The source of optimism is the efforts we have made - concrete tangible results, The
steps we have taken give us very strong signals from Brussels”, Darchiashvili
emphasised.
He expressed the hope the bloc will make the right decision and grant Georgia the
candidate status.
