Meeting between Maka Botchorishvili and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Timor-Leste

Within the framework of the United Nations High-Level Conference, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Botchorishvili, held a meeting with Benedito dos Santos Freitas, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. During the meeting, the ministers discussed avenues for cooperation between the two countries, both on a bilateral level and within international formats.

Minister Botchorishvili expressed her gratitude for Timor-Leste’s consistent support for the resolution on Georgia at the United Nations, underscoring its importance in mobilizing the international community and mechanisms in response to the dire humanitarian situation in Georgia’s occupied territories.

The meeting also highlighted the significance of enhancing cooperation between Georgia and the countries of Southeast Asia. In this context, Georgia’s successful engagement with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) - an organization Timor-Leste is expected to join in the near future - was particularly noted.

Additionally, the ministers welcomed the memorandum of understanding signed between the foreign ministries of Georgia and Timor-Leste, recognizing it as a valuable instrument for further strengthening ties between the two agencies.
