Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 67th Round of the Geneva International Discussions

The 67th round of the Geneva International Discussions was held on 30 June-1 July, 2026, where the Georgian delegation was led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs,  Lasha Darsalia.

Within the framework of the negotiations, the Georgian delegation expressed deep concern over the so-called Agreement on the Deepening of Allied Cooperation concluded on 9 May, 2026, between Russia and occupation regime in Tskhinvali, as well as its rushed implementation. It was emphasized, that such so-called agreements are null and void from a legal standpoint, constitute a gross violation of international law and impede constructive dialogue.

Georgian delegation made special emphasis on the core agenda items of the Geneva International Discussions related to the necessity of full implementation of the provisions of the EU-mediated 12 August 2008 Ceasefire Agreement by Russian Federation and the safe and dignified return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees to their homes.

Georgia sharply raised the issue of the grave security, humanitarian and human rights situation in the occupied regions and the destructive actions of the Russian occupation regimes.

Emphasis was also placed on the importance of restoring the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) in Gali without any preconditions and ensuring that the mechanism is held regularly in both Gali and Ergneti in accordance with its fundamental principles.

The representatives of the Russian Federation and its occupation regimes, employing their established practice, once again left the negotiation table on one of the key agenda items, such as the return of internally displaced persons and refugees from the occupied territories to their homes.

The Geneva International Discussions were established on the basis of the EU mediated 12 August 2008 Ceasefire Agreement and their principal agenda items are the implementation of Ceasefire Agreement, the safe and dignified return of internally displaced persons and refugees to their homes and the resolution of security and humanitarian challenges resulting from the Russian occupation.

The next, 68th round of the Geneva International Discussions will be held on 10-11 November, 2026.
