Chronology of Diplomatic Relations

Diplomatic relations between Georgia and Japan were established on August 3, 1992.

Fields of cooperation

Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA) is being implemented in Georgia through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in different major directions: grant aid for the sectors of economy and infrastructure (energy, roads, hospitals, and agriculture), preferential loans (energy, transport, and infrastructure), grant aid to local NGOs and technical assistance (training of Georgian specialists in Japan and dispatch of Japanese experts to Georgia). In the frames of ODA, many projects were also implemented in agriculture, education, and health care.

In the frames of the above assistance, the Government of Japan is financing two important projects in Georgia: the East-West Highway Improvement Project and Clean Energy by Solar Electricity Generation System.
