On 2 July 2026, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Maka Botchorishvili, held an introductory meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Georgia, Seyed Ali Moujani Ghomi, who assumed his diplomatic post in Georgia in January 2026.
In discussing the regional situation, the parties underscored the importance of peace and diplomatic efforts.
The Minister welcomed the signing of the Peace Memorandum between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the ongoing negotiations between the parties, and expressed the hope that this process will pave the way for a comprehensive peace agreement and the long-term resolution of the conflict, thereby fostering enhanced cooperation across the wider region.
Iran's steadfast support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity was reaffirmed, and the important role of diplomatic missions in advancing the agenda of bilateral relations between the two countries was highlighted.
