The First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia meets with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić

As part of his visit to Strasbourg, on 18 April 2023, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Lasha Darsalia, met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić.

Within the framework of the meeting, the sides discussed a wide range of issues related to close cooperation between Georgia and the Council of Europe, including the assistance provided by the Council of Europe to Georgia on its path to European integration. The Secretary General positively evaluated Georgia's ongoing reforms and expressed her readiness to continue cooperation with Georgia in this regard.

Discussions also focused on the current issues on the organization's agenda and the developments taking place across the region.

The sides talked about the difficult situation in the Russian-occupied Tskhinvali and Abkhazia regions of Georgia. The First Deputy Minister thanked the Secretary General for her consolidated report on the conflict in Georgia, which describes the current situation in the territories occupied by Russia.

The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe will discuss the report at the meeting scheduled for 19 April 2023. The first deputy minister of foreign affairs, Lasha Darsalia will lead the delegation of Georgia during the meeting.
