Maka Botchorishvili has met with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights

On 23 February 2026, within the framework of the High-Level Segment of the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Botchorishvili, held a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk.


The discussion addressed the security environment in Georgia’s occupied territories and the need for the peaceful resolution of the conflict. The Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining the situation in the occupied territories high on the United Nations agenda. She also underlined the necessity of granting access to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and other international monitoring mechanisms to the occupied territories.

The Minister noted that Georgia will once again submit to the United Nations Human Rights Council the resolution entitled “Cooperation with Georgia.”

Within the framework of the meeting, the discussion also addressed ongoing developments in Georgia and the security environment in the region. The parties expressed their readiness to continue cooperation on important issues related to the protection of human rights.
