On 15 January 2026, at the initiative of the U.S. side, a meeting was held between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Lasha Darsalia, and the Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy to Georgia, Alan Purcell.

During the meeting, the U.S. side provided the Deputy Minister with detailed information regarding the decision of the U.S. Department of State to pause the processing of certain categories of visas.

In particular, the Chargé d'Affaires explained that the pausing of visa processing for citizens of more than 70 countries worldwide, including Georgia, applies exclusively to immigrant visas. It was noted that this measure does not extend to visas issued for other purposes.
