The Foreign Ministers of Georgia and Italy have welcomed the signing of the declaration on high-level dialogue between the two countries

Within the framework of his official visit to the Italian Republic, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, held a meeting with his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani. Following the meeting, the signing ceremony of the declaration on the establishment of high-level dialogue between Georgia and Italy was also held.


At the meeting, the ministers discussed in detail the issues of cooperation between the two countries and welcomed the signing of the declaration on high-level dialogue, which will bring the existing relations to a qualitatively new level.


The ministers paid special attention to Georgia’s European integration agenda and the progress in this direction. Efforts and steps taken by the government of Georgia to receive a candidate status were discussed. It is worth noting that the Italian side reaffirmed its support of Georgia's aspirations and noted the importance of granting Georgia a candidate status.


The ministers discussed the security situation in the region. Italy’s growing political, as well as  trade-economic interest in the region was also noted.


Speaking about bilateral relations, the sides talked extensively about the existing economic ties between Georgia and Italy, positively assessed the increasing volume of Italian investments and the growing number of Italian companies in Georgia, and expressed their interest in bringing business communities of the two countries even closer to each other.


The ministers also welcomed the active cultural cooperation and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
