On 26 October 2026, a preparatory meeting for the 68th round of the Geneva International Discussions (GID) was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia with the Co-Chairs of the Discussions from the European Union, the United Nations and the OSCE and members of their delegations.
The Georgian side was led by Lasha Darsalia, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of the Georgian Delegation to the Geneva International Discussions.
During the meeting, the Georgian side placed particular emphasis on the security, humanitarian and human rights challenges in Georgia’s occupied regions and the areas adjacent to the occupation line.
The sides discussed actions by the Russian Federation aimed at the illegal annexation of Georgia’s occupied territories, which run counter to the fundamental principles of international law.
The meeting also underscored the need to ensure the effectiveness of the negotiation format and achieve tangible progress on substantive issues.
In this context, particular attention was paid to the fulfilment by the Russian Federation of its international obligations under the 12 August 2008 Ceasefire Agreement, brokered by the European Union, as well as to the safe and dignified return of internally displaced persons and refugees to their places of residence.
The importance of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) and the need to resume its functioning in Gali were also highlighted.
The 68th round of the Geneva International Discussions will take place in Geneva on 10–11 November 2026.
