“There is a bond of friendship and mutual goodwill between our peoples, and this provides an excellent foundation for further deepening the history of our bilateral relations and partnership,” stated the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Botchorishvili, at a joint press conference held following her meeting with her Turkmen counterpart, Rashid Meredov.
According to the Minister, Georgia attaches great importance to the further enhancement of bilateral cooperation, which has been fostered by a series of recent high-level meetings.
The Minister placed special emphasis on the substantial potential for cooperation in the trade and economic sectors, particularly in the areas of energy, transport, and transit.
“Our political dialogue, of course, plays a crucial role in advancing trade and economic relations, which remain one of the main priorities in our bilateral cooperation. Next year, a new meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation will be held - an excellent opportunity to identify new areas of collaboration and to further strengthen cooperation across various sectors,” the Minister noted.
Maka Botchorishvili placed particular emphasis on the importance of enhancing connectivity and transit potential. In this context, she also drew attention to the fact that Georgia is hosting the Silk Road Forum, which clearly reflects both the country’s growing international role and the increasing interest it commands.
“The Silk Road Forum is closely linked to one of Georgia’s key priorities - connectivity. Naturally, strengthening cooperation with Turkmenistan in this regard is of great importance to us,” Botchorishvili stated.
In conclusion, the Minister underscored the significance of peace and stability, which are essential for consolidating economic ties both bilaterally and across the wider region.
Maka Botchorishvili expressed gratitude to the Turkmen side for its consistent support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and emphasized the importance of cooperation within international organizations.
