On 27 October 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, held a meeting with
the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan to Georgia, Ishizuka Hideki. At the
meeting, the sides discussed various topical issues of bilateral relations. Special attention was paid to
the possibilities of using Georgia's stable investment potential. Georgia-Japan partnership in terms of
connectivity and transit was also emphasized.
The sides put special emphasis on the importance of exchanging high-level visits between the two
countries, which would add a positive momentum to the existing bilateral relations. For the
strengthening of people-to-people contacts, the sides emphasized the importance of establishing direct
flights between Georgia and Japan and of introducing a visa-free regime for Georgian citizens to travel
to Japan. At the end of the meeting, the sides once again confirmed their readiness to continue close
cooperation.
