Relations between Georgia and the Czech Republic
Diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Czech Republic were established on January 1, 1993.
Embassy of Georgia to the Czech Republic opened in 2006.
Embassy of the Czech Republic to Georgia opened in 2000.
Fields of Cooperation
Bilateral relations as well as cooperation within international organisations between Georgia and the Czech Republic have been developing dynamically. Up to ten international treaties signed between the two countries form a legal basis for cooperation in the fields of economy, finances, culture, defence and security, education, science, sports, etc.
Georgia and the Czech Republic enjoy active inter-parliamentary cooperation. Meetings on Committee level take place on a regular basis. Inter-parliamentary Friendship Groups are established in both parliaments. With the adopted resolutions and declarations, Czech parliament has repeatedly affirmed its unwavering support towards Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as the European aspirations.
Georgia is a recipient of the Development Cooperation Strategy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic (ODA). Bilateral assistance projects are being implemented in the fields of health care, environment, agriculture, good governance and civil society development.
Relations are developing successfully in the fields of economy, energy and tourism. Czech companies are actively investing in Georgia. Business Forums and sessions of Intergovernmental Economic Commission held in recent years refer to the dynamically developing economic ties. The number of the Czech visitors to Georgia is also increasing which is largely facilitated by the direct flights between the two countries.
Georgia and the Czech Republic enjoy close cooperation also in the field of education. Czech government grants scholarships to Georgian students annually, allowing them to study at the universities of the Czech Republic.
In 2015 the Center for Georgian Language and Culture was established at the Charles University in Prague and History of Georgian Language and Culture was officially included in the syllabus.
To promote Georgian culture in the Czech Republic, various cultural events take place on a regular basis.
The square named after the first President of the Czech Republic Vacvav Havel was opened in Tbilisi.
Abasha municipality of Georgia is twinned with the Czech town of Jevíčko.
